COURSE OUTLINE

Construction Trades Technology Program (CTT) Credits: 4

Introduction

The construction trades program will consist of 360 hours of instruction and shop time. Students will be eligible for four (4) credits towards graduation in grade 11 and 2-5 credits of Coop Ed in grade 12 depending on interest and career aspirations. The curriculum will be implemented in conjunction with the process of building a residential house. This program is designed to give students a practical overview of the construction process. Although the program is designed around residential construction, students will be exposed to commercial and industrial construction as well. The students will work in crews of four. The crews will consist of a group leader and three other workers. The role of leader and group dynamics are subject to change to find the best combination.

The course will run all afternoon from 1:10 PM until 3:20 PM. There will not be a break in the afternoon.

•  Materials Technology

•  Carpentry

•  Foundations

•  Framing

•  Interior/Exterior Finishing

•  Electrical

•  Plumbing

•  Masonry

•  HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning)

•  Final Project

The National Building Code will be used extensively

Student Requirements

•  Work clothing suitable for both interior and exterior.

•  Steel-toed footwear

•  Hat Policy—Baseball Caps, Hardhat zone

•  Binder 2” binder c/w 5 dividers

•  Optional Tools

•  $25 Shop Fee

Students will be supplied with a tool belt and all the necessary tools. The tools will be signed out to the students and they will be responsible for them during the year.
